Cameroon states the departure of Andre Onana.

Cameroon release statement over Andre Onana departure

Cameroon has banned inter-player Andre Onana for disciplinary reasons.

Although Onana started and played the 90 minutes of Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Switzerland and was slated to start Monday’s match against Serbia, rumors circulated that the Inter keeper had been cut from the team.

According to the rumor mill, Onana was benched because he and Cameroon manager Rigobert Song had different tactical preferences, with Song favoring a “more conventional” approach to goaltending.

The Cameroon Football Association has now officially announced Onana’s suspension.

The Cameroon Football Federation released a statement saying, “The player Andre Onana has been provisionally banned from the squad for disciplinary reasons, per the decision of Mr. Rigobert Song Bahanag, Head Coach of the Indomitable Lions.”

The Cameroonian Football Federation reaffirms its unwavering support for the national team’s head coach and his whole coaching staff as they work to uphold the federation’s principles of team unity, discipline, solidarity, and complementarity.

Further, “FECAFOOT confirms its commitment to offer the squad a tranquil environment and the necessary resources to deliver an excellent performance.”
