Canada draws pre-World Cup friendly with Bahrain; roster announced Sunday

Friday’s encounter against Bahrain was the last for the Canadian men’s national team before they revealed their 2022 World Cup squad. They were held to a 2-2 tie.

Since Canada’s European contingent has not yet joined the squad, several of the MLS-based players were under the scrutiny on Friday at Khalifa Sports City Stadium until John Herdman announced the group that will fly to Qatar on Sunday.

Canada got off to a great start, with CF Montreal player Ismael Kone scoring his first senior international goal after breaking from midfield to meet a Kamal Miller pass, outrunning the Bahrain defense and putting the ball past Ibraheem Latf Allah.
