Cody Gakpo talks about a possible move to Manchester United after a failed summer deal

Cody Gakpo discusses potential Man Utd move amid failed summer transfer

Cody Gakpo acknowledged that he ‘thought about’ joining Manchester United in the summer and would do so again if contacted.

United showed interest in the Netherlands player late in the summer transfer season, with a move for Antony seeming more doubtful. However, Manchester United returned to Ajax and satisfied their demands to complete the deal for the Brazilian, which meant that a move for the Dutchman did not take place.

He’s subsequently had a spectacular World Cup performance in Qatar, which has drawn the attention of big teams, including United. Allfootballleague believes that United has been persuaded of his abilities due to his performances in the Middle East, with Erik ten Hag pressing for his signing.

Cody Gakpo, on the other hand, has broken his silence on the subject, telling the Dutch news agency NRC: “I haven’t heard from Manchester United yet.” If they arrive, I’ll consider it with God’s aid.

“I thought about Man United last summer, but when that didn’t materialize, I didn’t know what to do,” he continued. Then Leeds showed up, and I had my doubts…now I wait and see.”

After United backed down, a transfer to the Premier League looked to be on the table, with Leeds and Southampton expressing interest, but Gakpo chose to remain at PSV Eindhoven.

The 23-year-old entered the World Cup with the Netherlands after scoring 13 goals and assisting 17 times in all competitions for PSV in the first half of the season, and he has maintained that form for the Oranje.

Gakpo has three goals in four games in Qatar and will have the opportunity to add to that number against Argentina in the quarter-finals on December 9.
