Emi Martinez comments on Argentina's World Cup victory

Emi Martinez feels that Argentina’s ‘destiny’ was to win the 2022 World Cup after their 4-2 triumph against France on penalties.

The Aston Villa goalkeeper played a crucial role and put on a great show to help his country win the World Cup for the first time in 36 years. He made a series of crucial saves, saved a penalty in the shootout, and dispossessed Aurelien Tchouameni, who missed his penalty attempt.

In addition to Copa America, he has added the World Cup and the tournament’s Golden Glove award to his suddenly spectacular trophy collection.

Emi Martinez told reporters after the game, “It was our fate to lose, since they scored a late equaliser after we had taken the lead.”

The 30-year-old stated, “I have accomplished all of my goals. I am at a loss for words. I remained composed during the penalty shootout, and everything went as planned.

“I left for England at an early age. I dedicate my triumph to my whole family.”

Martinez barely made his Argentine national team debut in a World Cup qualifying last year before being pushed into the limelight as Lionel Scaloni’s top pick for the 2021 Copa America.

He was instrumental in his team’s success as they broke a significant trophy drought and began a 36-game undefeated streak.

He now comes to Villa as a World Cup champion after joining Villa in 2020 from Arsenal, where he spent most of his career as a backup.
