Hugo Lloris sends a message to Harry Kane after his World Cup penalty miss

Hugo Lloris said he talked with Tottenham colleague Harry Kane after England’s elimination from the 2022 World Cup due to Kane’s failed penalty kick.

Kane had previously scored past France captain Hugo Lloris in the quarterfinal match, but his late miss proved decisive as the Three Lions were eliminated from the tournament with a 2-1 loss and a flight out of Qatar.

The Spurs forward was noticeably distraught after the game, and Lloris, who also serves as club captain, has since disclosed he talked with his teammate to cheer him up.

“I don’t need to elaborate too much, but we received a text message after the game, although it was difficult to find the words immediately after the game in the locker room,” Lloris added.

“I believe he deserved relaxation, but it was a challenging moment for the England national team and Harry. However, I believe he may be proud of his contributions to the national squad at this World Cup. I believe that throughout football history, many elite players have missed crucial penalties.”

Lloris also trusted Kane to recover quickly, noting that he is not the first great player to miss from the penalty spot under pressure.

“Players such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kylian Mbappe have failed to score,” he said. I do not doubt that Harry will maintain his composure and continue to excel for Tottenham and his national team.
