Leroy Sane won’t play for Germany against Japan in their World Cup opener.

Leroy Sane won't play as a winger for Bayern Munich

Leroy Sane won’t play as a winger for Bayern Munich and has been officially ruled out of Germany’s first World Cup match vs Japan on Wednesday.

Due to a knee injury, Sane missed training on Tuesday morning. The German national team has already stated that Sane will not participate in the match against Japan.

Although the 26-year-old is often an important member of Hansi Flick’s starting lineup, the manager will now need to search elsewhere for potency out wide. Sane is the only left winger who is naturally gifted on the team, although Jamal Musiala, a colleague from Bayern Munich, has extensive experience playing there and may be called up as a consequence.

Serge Gnabry, Jonas Hofmann, and even Thomas Muller—more of a centre attacker but with plenty of experience playing out wide—are other wide alternatives in Flick’s team.

Sane’s absence is disappointing for his numerous suitors, who have made inquiries about acquiring him from Bayern in the upcoming weeks.

Sane only had eight Bundesliga appearances this season at the club level, compared to his 22 starts in the previous campaign, which, according to 90min, has encouraged interested parties like Arsenal to inquire about his transferability.

Bayern is adamant that Sane is not for sale, and they have no plans to negotiate with him once he returns from the World Cup.
