Lionel Messi sets a new Instagram record with his World Cup post.

The first Instagram post by Lionel Messi after his World Cup victory has garnered the most likes on the social media site.

The Argentine went into this World Cup knowing it was almost certainly his last opportunity to win the highest trophy in sports.

He and Argentina eventually triumphed spectacularly, with the forward scoring seven goals, including two in the final, to lead his country to success and establish himself as the indisputable greatest player of all time.

Lionel Messi victory was hailed not just by Argentina fans but by football fans all around the globe, who were overjoyed that he had finally become a global champion.

That was clear in his Instagram photo, which now has more likes than any other, surpassing the 53 million of the famous world record egg picture.

“I dreamed it so many times, I wanted it so much that I still can’t believe it,” Messi said in his Instagram post.

“Many thanks to my family, everyone who supports me and believes in us. We once again demonstrated that Argentines fighting together and unified are capable of doing everything they put their minds to.

“The credit belongs to this collective, which is greater than the individuals; it is the power of everyone battling for the same ideal, which was also the dream of all Argentines… “We did it!”
