Twitter reacts to Spain's World Cup knockout to Morocco on penalties

Spain has been knocked out of the World Cup on penalties for the second consecutive tournament, this time by Morocco, after narrowly avoiding the same fate as Germany in their group.

What brought us here? Were Spain’s northern African neighbours not the favourites to advance?

With La Roja, it was the same old story: lots of possession, not enough penetration.

But credit where it’s due to Morocco, who took Spain the whole way and went toe-to-toe with them. West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd came in for praise again.

With this win, Walid Regragui became the first African manager to lead a nation into the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
